Ruth's career in 2D + 3D design began at the Australian Museum. She then taught design at the Architecture Faculty, University of Sydney.

In 1986, Ruth evolved the 'Bicentenial Look' for the Australian Bicentenial Authority, also implementing exhibitions and street decorations. In 1988, Ruth established a private practice and is now involved with Design at Work.

Ruth's work includes corporate identity programs, concept designs for exhibitions as well as public art projects. Ruth prepares Art and Cultural Plans and develops concepts for site specific artworks. Ruth and Geoff produce detailed designs and specifications and project manage all fabrications and installation.

As a practising artist, Ruth won the People's Choice Award in the National Sculpture Prize, National Gallery of Australia in 2002. Her prize winning work has since toured to Washington, New York and many regional galleries in Australia.
